The International VELUX Award 2008 (IVA 2008) has received no less than 2114 registrations from students from 68 countries. The Award encourages students of architecture worldwide to give their personal interpretations of the overall theme: “Light of tomorrow”. Now their work begins.

VELUX is pleased to announce the jury of the International VELUX Award 2008 for Students of Architecture. The jury makes up a distinguished panel with different cultural backgrounds, nationalities and approaches to architecture.
Vanessa Estrada is an Assistant Professor at the University Of South Florida School Of Architecture. She uses The International VELUX Award in her teaching. One of her students, Christa Scott, won honourable mention in the International VELUX Award 2006.
The International VELUX Award wants to explore the theme of sunlight and daylight in its widest sense. If you need inspiration on the theme of daylight you might want to look at www.thedaylightsite.com, a site that VELUX is hosting to offer inspiration, research papers, recommended literature on and links to daylight and architecture.
Petia Ratzov from France and Calle Hall-Karlström from Sweden won honourable mention in the International VELUX Award 2006 for Students of Architecture (IVA 2006) for their project “Cultivated shadows” representing the Lund University in Sweden. Read Petia’s reflections on IVA here.

“The International VELUX Award has given me a great interest in pursuing daylight in every aspect of design. I am interested in doing studies on how daylight can influence the quality of space in which a person lives, works, or plays”, says Christa Scott who won honourable mention in 2006.
Anastasia Karandinou won the third prize in IVA 2006 for her project “Light Invisible Bridges”. “IVA 2006 was an extremely useful experience, a chance to test ideas, to communicate them and exchange experience and thoughts with other architects”, says Anastasia in the interview that you can read here.
In 2006, the Award took place for the second time, this time extended to include students of architecture worldwide.
