• The International VELUX Award for Students of Architecture takes place every second year; the first time in 2004. The 4th International VELUX Award is open for registration from 1 October 2009 to 1 February 2010.
     
  • The International VELUX Award 2010 for Students of Architecture challenges students of architecture to explore the theme of sunlight and daylight in its widest sense to create a deeper understanding of this specific and ever-relevant source of light and energy.
     
  • The Award seeks to foster new thinking in regard to how daylight, fresh air and quality of life can be realized through design, thereby providing insight into the evolution of ideas and potential trends in relation to the development of VELUX products and solutions.
     
  • The Award contains no specific categories, no requirements about the size or type of projects nor a requirement for the use of any specific materials or VELUX products. Submissions may include everything from building design to the rethinking of daylight in urban living contexts to more abstract concepts like daylight vs. artificial light, day vs. night, in vs. out.
     
  • The interest in the Award has grown significantly since the first Award in 2004. In 2006, the number of submissions more than doubled compared to 2004, and the number of submissions in 2008 was the highest ever.
     
  • The Award will be evaluated by a jury consisting of internationally renowned architects and building professionals from around the world. The total prize money is 30,000 Euros, which will be given to a number of prize winners and honourable mentions among the students and their teachers. The number of prize winners and honourable mentions will be decided by the jury.
     
  • Winners will receive an expense-paid trip to the Award event expected to take place in Europe October 2010.
     
  • All projects will be displayed for the jury meeting in June 2010. All winning projects and honourable mentions will be published in the Award 2010 Yearbook, which will feature project presentations, project descriptions and jury evaluations. All projects will be published at iva.velux.com after the announcement of the winners at the Award event.
     
  • The Award is organised in close cooperation with the International Union of Architects (UIA) and the European Association for Architectural Education (EAAE). Both organisations are represented on the jury and contribute to the high professional standard of the Award.
