Ahmet Gülgönen, born in Turkey 1940, is an architect and professor of architecture. He obtained his B.Arch. from METU in Ankara, his masters of architecture and urban design from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, USA. From 1963 to 1965 he worked in the office of Louis Kahn. After teaching six years in METU, Ankara he continued at the Ecole d’Architecture Paris-Belleville in France, where he has been professor since 1972. He was also a visiting professor at MIT, USA from 1986 to 1988 and lectured in the major schools in Europe, in the USA as well as in Jordan and Pakistan.

Ahmet Gülgönen has made schools, museums and housing in Turkey before establishing his private practice in Paris with his wife, Florence Gülgönen also architect. He lives in the unity of teaching, building, and drawing. His recent book is a collection of drawings “Horizontal Drawings-Context as Place“ - with urban and natural landscape and architectural objects. They are essential part of the work as architect, and his beliefs about building within a context, be it natural and man-made.
